AUNTIE: On this edition of The Aunties Dandelion – we visit with Seneca nation award-winning filmmaker and Haudenosaunee community treasure Terry Jones. Terry passion to share Haudenosaunee life and culture extends from creating intimate movies in his home place to becoming part of a select gaming team that won Best Concept at imagineNATIVE’s 2021 Land Jam plus.. to curating a Haudenosaunee micro-short film festival in Buffalo, NY. Terry’s also famous for cooking and serving Iroquois roasted corn soup at his screenings. TERRY: When you make a film you are only showing, engaging two of the senses. It’s just their sight and sound.//Even VR has it’s limitations – it is not a real environment but I try to do the best I can to enhance that experience to be as close to being there as possible. AUNTIE: Terry is a recognized academic who graduated first in his class at Syracuse University film studies program, became the first native person to be designated Syracuse’s University scholar and gave the commencement speech for his class. Through his craft, collaboration and scholarship, Terry balances the entertainment and education his movies bring into the world. TERRY: And as a filmmaker – that is sort of what I am planning is in the future my film projects are little postcards into the future to say this is how I viewed the world and the stories that I was able to tell during my short time here on Earth. AUNTIE: We are the Aunties Dandelion media arts organization and we’re a collective of storytellers revitalizing our community through stories of land, language and relationships. Join us for our visit with Terry today – as you listen to your Aunties AND your uncles.
